KANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY
College of Agriculture
Department of Agronomy Crop, Soil, and Range Science
Description
A graduate research assistantship is available for a project that will explore management strategies to minimize wheat yield gap in Kansas. Applications are encouraged at both M.S. and Ph.D. candidate. If the successful candidate seeks an M.S. degree in Agronomy, the project will quantify the relative contribution of different crop production and crop protection management practices in maximizing wheat yield, quality, and enterprise profitability. If the successful candidate seeks a Ph.D. degree in Agronomy, the candidate will be responsible for other field studies in addition to the aforementioned project, including an evaluation of the role of genotype by management by environment interaction in minimizing Kansas wheat yield gaps. The research will involve applied field studies evaluating wheat physiological responses to management, including measurements related to canopy light interception, leaf chlorophyll concentration, leaf porosity, aboveground biomass, leaf area index, grain yield, and grain quality.
The student will be responsible for all field and laboratory tasks related to this study and will work as part of a collaborative team investigating several aspects of wheat production in Kansas. Candidate will complete coursework necessary for a M.S. or Ph.D. degree in Agronomy with a thesis/dissertation topic related to management strategies to minimize Kansas wheat yield gaps. The selected candidate can start as early as January 1st, 2016.
