GRADUATE RESARCH ASSISTANTSHIP

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD. student interested in soil science. Selected candidate will work independently and with assistance on Soil Microbial Ecology research exploring the impacts of different land uses (i.e., forests, agriculture, and waste sites) on soil microbial community structure and diversity. Traditional and novel microbiological and biogeochemical experiments, using innovative molecular biology, spectroscopic and bioinformatics techniques will be employed to understand the linkages between soil microbes and biogeochemical processes related to metabolic functioning. A significant outreach component will allow for interaction with high school students, teachers, and the public. Associated activities consist of data analysis; travel to collaborating laboratories to conduct experiments; report and manuscript preparation; and presentation of research at local, regional, and national meetings.

The department faculty provides diverse expertise in environmental and soil science, as well as fundamental knowledge of the physical, chemical, and biological processes that are key to understanding issues associated with these disciplines. Qualifications

. M.S. degree in Soil Science, Biogeochemistry, Microbiology, Environmental Science, Bioinformatics, Metagenomics, Environmental Engineering, or related field.
. Resume or C.V.

. Academic transcripts.
. TOEFL scores for international students.
. GRE scores.
. At least two letters of recommendation with contact information.

The selected candidate will start on Spring or Fall 2015.
