UNIVERSITY OF WYOMING
Dept. of Ecosystem Science and Management
Environment Pedology Group

We seek a highly-motivated M.S. student to conduct research on mechanisms and interactions involved in redox feature formation. The program will start in Fall 2016.

Wetland ecosystems offer a unique environment within which to examine soil morphological features used to illustrate wetland hydrology and occurrence of hydric soils. The relationship between how long a soil is saturated and the formation of redoximorphic features appear to vary widely throughout the geographic region, landscape position, soil type, and climate. This project will focus on investigating the relationship between time required to form redoximorphic features and the environmental conditions present (organic C, temperature, Fe concentration, etc.). The student will learn field and laboratory techniques in pedology, wetland soils, and ecology.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a B.S. degree in soil science, environmental science, biogeochemistry or closely related disciple with a strong interest in pedology, hydric soils, ecology, statistics, and modelling.

Application requirements

• Statement of interest.
• CV or resume.
• GRE scores.
• TOEFL scores for international students.
• Transcripts of grades.
• Three letters of recommendation with contact information.
