M.S. Graduate Research Assistant – Forage Management
Responsibilities
Conduct independent research in the area of forage management and soil ecology with focus on establishment and management of perennial and annual monoculture and mixtures of forages on research stations and cooperating farmers’ fields in North Carolina. This position is in collaboration with scientists in the Department of Soil Science and Department of Animal Science.
Field and laboratory activities are included. Field activities encompass establishment of forages, fertilization, management, and sampling of forages to be analyzed in the laboratory. Laboratory activities include analysis of nutritive value of forages.
General activities include data analysis; report preparation; and presentation of research results at local, regional, and national meetings. All graduate research and teaching assistants are required to participate in our teaching program by teaching one laboratory during one semester or providing support to the instructor for laboratory activities during two semesters.
Qualifications
B.S. degree in Agronomy, Animal Science, or closely related discipline. Demonstrated excellence in course work. Demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in Agronomy. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to work independently and as a team member.
Stipend and fees
Annual stipend is $18,000 per year, under the Graduate Student Support Plan, in-state tuition and health insurance are covered.
