SIX ASSISTANTSHIPS TO STUDY AGROECOLOGY
FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY (FIU)
There are six research assistantships to pursue a M.S. degree in agroecology and environmental sciences at Florida International University, Miami, Florida.
Funding comes from the USDA-National Needs Fellows Program and Hispanic Serving Institutions Program. Each assistantship covers studies for two years. The selected students will conduct independent research on areas of: soil science, soil microbiology, natural resource economics, agroecology and sustainable agriculture, agroforestry, land use change and urban ecology, water resources, and GIS application in sustainable agriculture.
Variety of related research activities will fit in these broader categories, which might include laboratory and field work, data analysis, reports and manuscripts preparation, and presentation of research results at local, regional, and national meetings.
All selected students are required to participate in our agroecology program growth and development. Some duties involve mentoring undergraduate students from the USDA funded Multicultural Scholar program, Hispanic Serving Institutions Scholar students, and Student interns.
Requirements include:
- A B.S. degree in soil science, ecology, microbiology, biochemistry, environmental science, or closely related disciplines.
- A resume or CV (in English language).
- A letter of intent (in English language).
- At least two letter of recommendation (in English language).Transcripts of grades (with demonstrated excellence in course work).
- TOEFL scores (to demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills).
- GRE scores are highly recommended.
- Ability to work independently and as a team member.
Each selected student will receive a stipend of $18,500 per year.
