La University of Arkansas y el Department of Crop, Soil and Environmental Sciences, invitan a participar en la siguiente oferta de becas.
Graduate Research Assistantships (M.S. and Ph.D.) are currently available in the Department of Crops, Soils, and Environmental Sciences at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, AR, U.S.A.
Assistantships are for students interested in soil fertility and soil test development for the sustainable production of agronomically important crops (corn, soybean, wheat, rice, etc.). Research will encompass both laboratory and field aspects of soil fertility research. Opportunities exist for research projects involved in soil test development as well as correlation and calibration of new test methods.
Selected students will incorporate agronomy, soil nutrient dynamics, and soil chemistry/fertility while interacting with a diverse group of researchers involved in a variety of soil fertility related projects.
Required qualifications for applications include:
1. Background in chemistry with an interest in agronomy, soil science.
2. Effective oral and written communication skills in English language (TOEFL scores are required for international applicants).
3. GRE scores are highly recommended.
4. Transcripts of grades.
5. A letter of application (Statement of Purpose).
6. Resume or C.V.
7. Three letter of recommendation.
Specific projects that are available include development of N assessment tools for rice and irrigated corn production, investigation of the N balance (i.e., N utilization, N transformations, N losses and mechanisms, and N mineralization from soil and plant residues) in paddy soils utilizing the isotopic tracer 15N, effects of winter cover crops on nutrient cycling and soybean growth in the Mid-South U.S.A., and improving double-crop soybean yield through variety selection and inoculation.
Salary will be commensurate (discussed) with selected applicants based on qualifications. Assistantships include tuition and research expenses. Also, additional fellowships are available to qualifying M.S. and Ph.D. students.
