Soil Science Graduate Assistantship

Description

The Plant, Soils and Climate Dept. at Utah State University is delighted to announce that we will award a four-year assistantship to the top Ph.D. applicant in Soil Science. This assistantship is part of a Presidential Doctoral Research Fellowship program. The successful applicant will study C storage and turnover, soil moisture dynamics and greenhouse gas emissions in dryland cropping systems in the arid West. We seek a motivated student with strong communication skills to explore the effects of compost on soil organic matter dynamics and C storage using a number of techniques such as sequential fractionations, mid-range infrared spectroscopy, and synchrotron-based spectroscopy. A background in chemistry or experience with soil analyses is preferred.
